Weirdo

I Feel Like My Old Self Again! Thank You Newgrounds!

Posted by Weirdo Jul. 17, 2007 @ 10:16 PM EDT

First of all, this new redesign is just AWESOME!

Anyways, the past few years I haven't been feeling well. I don't know how but one day I just stopped doing what I loved to do (animating, drawing, etc). This lasted for a long time! I simply lost interest in flash and design. This is why nothing of mine ever got done. But now I'm feeling great! I can draw again, I feel like drawing just like when I was in high school during class! I'm just afraid it might come back again.

Despite the artist block I had, I have been very busy. I have been hired a year ago as a graphic designer for a sports company. I create animations, logos, banner, etc. I really like working with these guys!

And here's the big news, a few months ago I have been commissioned to create a animated pilot episode! It started off as a storyboard job for the show, the original guy hired to do the job was from an art school that only did 9 drawings in two months. I produced 430 drawings in two weeks! Ow! My wrist sounds like a cement mixer! Granted, the other artist was in an art school, he probably had a final or something.

Then they asked if I could animate it. I just gave them a link to Newgrounds.com, they saw my submissions, and they wanted to do business. What they saw was my old junk, I guess that's why I want to animate again. I can't show people the same old stuff all the time, gotta make new things.

Oh yeah, don't ask what the show is about. I can't give anymore info on the show other than saying "I'm working on this show". Sorry, it's in my contract. When it's all done and if they say it's cool, then all will be revealed.

All of these great opportunities would never have happened to me if I did not have a place to showcase my flash. So here it is:

THANK YOU SO MUCH NEWGROUNDS! TOM, WADE, STAMPER, LILJIM, ALL YOU GUYS! YOUR SITE HELPS PEOPLE GET JOBS DOING WHAT THEY LOVE TO DO! I OWE YOU BIG TIME!

Personal Projects:

Weirdo Fights Ep2 is far from completion, since the original file was erased or lost when switching computers, but I haven't given up yet. It's going to get done, I just don't know when, especially with all this stuff going on.

I got that feeling too :) I haven't been able to make much flash lately due to bad motivation, but somehow the redesign made it better again! Haven't been able to make anything yet though since I have been checking out all the new features on NG ^_^ Best of luck on your projects!

Thanks! I know what you mean, I have been on here since it went up! So much to see and do!

I think what helps the artists block is seeing and doing new things, like stop doing your old routine and take a risk!

Congratz, i'm glad things are working out for you! I will likely check out your animations now, just to see what all the fuss is about :P.

Wow that must feel great working for a company and all. How much do big companies pay Flash animators anyway?

Jul. 18, 2007 | 12:02 AM Weirdo responds:

Thanks for the comment!

Here's my advice for anyone doing business as animators. NEVER SELL YOURSELF SHORT! You deserve to get paid a lot, because animating is a very time consuming process. The guys from the pilot show aren't like from a major studio, but I don't want to say what I'm being paid, but I'll say this: It's worth it!

It's a lot of responsibility, people count on you to hold your end of the bargain.

The seriously best part about the Flash showcase now is how it's separated by year, so that everyone can see an artist's learning curve. Even if people don't realize how important that is, they will eventually!
